Midi ver. 1
The midi file does not sound as clear as it did before uploaded. I'll see if I can improve the quality. (For instance, the second note of the first bar is not as distinctive as it should be - very important to the rhythm.) ~Gemma
Lyrics (ver. 1)
Put your prayer right here
Open heart now held in holy silence
Put your prayer right here
Open heart bright spirit loving kindness
Hear the voice of peace and love, sweet song eternal
Put your prayer right here
Put your prayer right here

Oh goodee another tune to play with! :-) Gemma I couldn't understand the rhythm intended for the melody, here's my attempt to make sense of it. ~Derek
Oh hooray, Derek! I've missed playing with you :D Interesting variant. I've got to listen to it a bit more. Here's (hopefully) a clearer midi of what I posted originally. ~Gemma
midi (ver. 1 with strings and guitar)
Hi, Gemma, yes that does sound clearer, but I think the melody would work better if the word "prayer" fell on the first beat of a bar, rather than the word "put." What do you think? My long D minor string chords sound a bit funereal, maybe some changes needed there too! ~Derek.

Variant 3
Hi~ Actually, for me, I like the syncopation - the unexpected emphasis - of the rhythm :) I hear the phrase, "put your...here", as a call and then the following phrase as an opening of space as an answer. Here's an updated version below. It still does not sound the same as the midi I created on my pc. (It loses the flow - the cohesion - between the different instruments.) It does sound a bit better if you copy the file to your own computer and then play it there. Oh well, give it a listen and I hope you can hear the feeling I'm trying to evoke. ~Gemma
midi (ver. 2)
For me, if I play any of these midi files back through my PC speakers they sound awful, whereas if I save them and then play them back through the synthesizer they sound quite good. Here's a small variation using organ, and an extra rest after the middle 8: ~Derek.

So much fun! a) The organ lends a different vibration all together. It feels a little heavy handed in the half note segment (the part that opens up). Can you change it up a bit to feel more majestic and expansive? b) Yes, I like the extra rest too. c) The added organ line at the end is so very interesting to me. I feel like --- ooh what is he saying, what is it, what is it, I really want to know. And then it comes back to an amen kind of thing. This is my kookie way of saying it speaks to me on another (perhaps even unexpected) level. Any lyrics for this part? ~g
Hi Gemma the wee bit at the end was just some whimsy on my part. I imagined the choir practice was over and the organist started practicing his Bach Toccata and Fugue in D minor. ~Derek.
LOL LOL I guess I was drawn into your whimsy!! Can we keep it in somehow? ~g
Hi, g, I've taken the organ bass pedal part out of the middle 8, and also added an extra rest to allow the choir to exit before the organist starts practicing his Bach. ~Derek.
