Prayers listed here describe the Divine Source as the Great Spirit. Many earth based religions including Native American, used these words rather than the monarchical, patriarchal word Lord or God. However, many earth based religions also delineated the Sun and Moon as male and female or vice versa, so if the name for Divinity is not to your taste, substitute your own name that you are comfortable with. God or Goddess, Grandfather or Grandmother, Lord or Queen, Divinity speaks to us all and we to our Source in the most basic of languages, that of the heart.

And before you nothing has been.
There is no one to pray to but you.
The star nations all over the heavens are yours.
And yours are the grasses of the earth.
Grandfather, Great Spirit, fill us with the light.
Teach us to walk the soft earth as relatives to all that live.
Help us, for without you we are nothing.

Prayer for Peace
O Great Spirit of our Ancestors,
I raise my pipe to you.
To your messengers the four winds,
and to Mother Earth who provides for your children.
Give us the wisdom to teach our children to love,
to respect, and to be kind to each other
so that they may grow with peace in mind.
Let us learn to share all the good things
that you provide for us on this Earth.

Wankan Tanka, Great Spirit--
Look at me - I am poor and naked,
but I am the chief of my people.
We do not want riches but we want to bring
up our children right.
Riches would not be of any use to us.
We cannot take them into the other world.
We do not want riches.
We want peace and love.

A Day's Blessing
It is morning,
I give thanks for the rising sun.
It is noon,
I give thanks for the sweat on my brow.
It is evening,
I give thanks for the rising moon,
a good day is almost finished.
I am thankful for a day of light.
Tonight I thank you for rest and safe harbor.
Tomorrow the sun will rise again.
Great Spirit,
if a day goes by when I am not thankful,
help me to remember
that you have given us life and
you can take it from us.
Express your sacred blessings through me,
and I will not falter.
Earth is my home and I know no other.
Bless me Great Spirit and all your children
of day and night.
The sacred road we walk is bright.
Tomorrow is another day of light.
Tonight I am protected.

Great Spirit Divine,
help us to live each day
surrounded by your love.
Help us to share that love
with everyone we meet by
setting good examples
through our actions
and our words.
If I have been abrupt, forgive me.
If I have been wrong, forgive me.
If I have been unfair, forgive me.
Shine on me day and night that
I may be in your light always
and please bless those I may have
offended accidentally or intentionally.
I pray to do better.
Amen
